Maem Lake

Black Drongo Maem Lake Crested Serpent Eagle
I visited Maem Lake once early in the morning with the specific intention of catching up with the Brown Fish Owl that roosts in the large tree at the southern end of the lake and to try for Drongo Cuckoo which has been reported there. Unfortunately the Fish Owl was not at its normal roost site and the water in the lake was too high to cross to the eastern side of the lake and look for Drongo Cuckoo in the woods.

Len and myself had distant views of a flock of Orange-breasted Green Pigeons with a single bird alighting in a tree on the far side of the lake. Other birds seen were White-bellied Drongo, Rufous Woodpecker, Crested Serpent Eagle plus several commoner species.
In hind site I think we left the lake too early as the sun had not reached the woods on the eastern side of the lake prior to our departure. Other birders had good birds there later in the day.
